Wham!是1981年成立的一支二重奏流行舞曲乐队，由生于1963年6月26日的George Michael和生于1963年6月25日的Andrew Ridgeley组建。乐队在1982年以一首浪漫情调的“Young Guns”首次涉足美国排行榜，名列第三，1983年他们的第一张专辑“fantastic”跃居英国榜首。次年一首“Careless Whisper”震撼了各地的排行榜。1986年Wham!在英国解散，George Michael开始独创音乐生涯。Wham!是中国人自改革开放以来最早接触到的西方流行音乐，1985年，Wham!应中国青少年联合会之邀，来中国开了两场演唱会，这两位22岁的英国年轻人成了中国同龄人眼中的明星，成方圆还专门翻唱了若干填上中国词的Wham!作品。现在大家一提起Wham!，就要说到《Careless Whisper》，可是，这首发表于1984年的作品实在是没有一点Wham!的欢快风格，它太忧郁了。事实上，这首歌是George Michael准备解散乐队的一个前奏，这是他第一次独立制作，独自演唱的作品。如果哪位算命先生说George Michael脑后生着反骨，我是不会怀疑的，这个叛逆的天才后来摆脱了乐队的束缚，又和唱片公司打起了官司，他想摆脱唱片工业的束缚。后来，事情发展到新的高度，George Michael宣布自己有gay倾向，还在明星出没的贝弗利山的公共厕所做顶级表演，他想摆脱庸俗社会观念的束缚。这种叛逆者的本性在他16岁就露出了苗头，而这首《Careless Whisper》唱的就是他亲身经历过的一场感情三角债风波。至于事情的结果和这位叛逆者后来的处境，没有太多人会去关心，但这首歌的好听却是不容置疑的，十几年前，年龄尚小的我就已经听到这首歌了，虽然当时听不懂唱了些什么，但通过查了词典，看了歌词，隐隐约约地也明白了些东西。在当时这首歌还被许多电视广告作为背景音乐使用，就是那段极富有感染力的saxophone，十多年过去了，发现它还是那么好听，永远都不过时
