恶梦般的童年，致命的疾病，贫穷和种族歧视，这一切对于一个人来说意味着什么？对生命的洞察还是直面命运的勇气？或者对正常人眼中美好的偏离？对于这个已经42岁的英国黑人Seal来说，是一句格言似的话：“所有形式的艺术都会经过一切最初的逆境，逆境创造了艺术。”至于什么是艺术，这位身高近2米的疤面歌手并没有过人的见解。他也并不急于深入痛苦的根源，去探索常人所不能习惯的隐秘，他只是一位流行歌手而已。1991年，Seal像所有平步青云的新星那样，通过首张同名专集《Seal》，在英美两地一炮走红。但他真正被世界托上光华之巅，是因为一个戴着眼罩，身批黑色斗篷飞来飞去的大侠。在电影《永远的蝙蝠侠》中，是Seal以一首《Kiss From A Rose》夺取了最多的荣耀。和电影原声大碟里其他作品一样，这首歌也带着些蝙蝠侠式的神秘，但不同的是，它揭开了这位夜行怪客的黑衣，袒露出不为人知的柔情。蝙蝠侠是战无不胜的，可Seal却是人，他唱着一首倾诉爱情的歌，难免流露出对世事无常的无奈，所以他唱不出声泪俱下和荡气回肠，只是爱慕着，欣赏着玫瑰，离那毒刺远远的，用一种古典的方式抒怀。当玫瑰送来芳香的吻，是该不顾一切地迎上去，连疼痛一起享用？还是止步于咫尺之遥，徘徊着，在流泪之前说出所有赞美？“你知道，当大雪降下，我睁大了双眼，却将再也看不到你的光辉...”
