英语里一个 word 是否不能有空格?韦氏高阶英汉双解词典Nouns, the largest class of words in English (and in most languages), are the names of things, people, animals, places, qualities, actions, and ideas. A noun that refers to one of these is singular; while a noun that refers to more than one of these is plural. A noun is usually a single word, but not always: cake, shoes, school bus, and time and a half are all nouns.
名词,英语(和大多数语言)中最大的词类,是事物、人、动物、地点、性质、行为和想法的名称。指称一个人或事物的等的名词是单数名词,而指称一个以上人或事物等的名词是复数名词,如:cake、shoes、school bus 和 time and a half 全都是名词。 剑桥高阶英汉双解词典school bus
noun C
a bus for taking children to and from school 校车(接送学生上学、放学的客车) 朗文当代高级英语辞典(英英·英汉双解)(第 5 版)ˌtime and a ˈhalf
noun U
one and a half times the normal rate of pay相当于平时一倍半的工资:
» We get time and a half for working on Sunday. 我们星期天加班拿一倍半的工资。
所以,英语中有的词(word)是有空格的,比如上面的 school bus、time and a half 。
下面要列举的《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》(第 8 版)里的 126 个介词,部分也是有空格的,如 according to 、apart from、aside from、because of ,在 OALD 中,都直接标注了 preposition,当然,也有语法书把它们称为短语介词(注意和“介词短语”区分)。 牛津高阶英汉双解词典(第 8 版)prep·os·ition
/ˌprepəˈzɪʃn ; NAmE ˌprepəˈzɪʃn /
noun (grammar 语法)
a word or group of words, such as in, from, to, out of and on behalf of, used before a noun or pronoun to show place, position, time or method 介词
DERIVATIVE
— prep·os·ition·al /ˌprepəˈzɪʃənl ; NAmE ˌprepəˈzɪʃənl / adjective
» a prepositional phrase (= a preposition and the noun following it, for example at night or after breakfast) 介词短语
评:牛津这里玩了点花招, a word(如 in、from、to) OR group of words(如 out of 、on behalf of) 都可以叫 preposition,但是在词典正文,将 according to 、apart from、aside from、because of 等标注为 preposition ,却没有给 out of 标注。
这些啊,一团乱麻。
这里列出《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》(第 8 版)中明确标注了 preposition 的词,其重要性,就不提咯。
